West Wicklow RFC Club Code of Conduct
Aligned with IRFU Governance Guidelines
1. Purpose
This Club Code of Conduct applies to all members of West Wicklow Rugby Football Club. It sets out the standards of behaviour expected across every section of the club and should be read alongside the relevant Codes of Conduct for Mini Rugby, Youth Rugby, Coaches, Volunteers and Parents/Guardians, together with all applicable IRFU, Leinster Rugby and Club policies.

3. General Principles
All members are expected to:
● Treat others with respect, courtesy, and dignity.
● Promote an environment free from bullying, harassment or discrimination.
● Behave in a manner that reflects positively on West Wicklow Rugby Football Club.
● Follow all club policies, including safeguarding, anti-bullying and health and safety policies.
● Act as positive role models for younger players, peers and the wider community.
● Report any safeguarding concern without delay in accordance with the Club Safeguarding Policy and IRFU Safeguarding procedures.
4. Code of Conduct for Players
● All Mini and Youth players are expected to comply with the relevant Mini or Youth Code of Conduct in addition to this Club Code.
5. Code of Conduct for Coaches and Volunteers
Coaches and volunteers are expected to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and to:
● Lead by example and act as positive role models.
● Encourage fair play, respect and inclusion in all activities.
● Provide safe and structured training and matches.
● Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every player.
● Avoid any behaviour that could be construed as abusive, intimidating, or discriminatory.
● Respond appropriately to any concerns raised by players or parents.
● Promote awareness of safeguarding, anti-bullying and welfare policies.
● Coaches and volunteers must comply with all IRFU safeguarding requirements appropriate to their role, including maintaining the required vetting and safeguarding training.
6. Code of Conduct for Parents/Guardians
Parents and guardians are expected to:
● Support their child’s participation in a positive and encouraging way.
● Respect coaches, referees, players, and volunteers.
● Refrain from putting undue pressure on children to perform.
● Avoid criticising or undermining players, coaches, or referees.
● Encourage children to follow club rules, respect teammates, and play fairly.
● Report any safeguarding, welfare or bullying concerns promptly to the Club Children's Officer in accordance with the Club Safeguarding Policy.
● Encourage positive behaviour both on and off the pitch.
7. Disciplinary Procedures
● Breaches of this Code of Conduct will be taken seriously. Alleged breaches will be considered in accordance with the Club Constitution, Club Disciplinary Procedures and relevant IRFU Regulations.
● The Club Committee, or its nominated disciplinary panel, may investigate complaints fairly and confidentially and may issue guidance, warnings, mediation or appropriate disciplinary sanctions, including suspension or expulsion where necessary.
● Any safeguarding concern will be managed in accordance with IRFU Safeguarding procedures.
8. Monitoring and Review
This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually by the Club Committee to ensure it remains effective, relevant, and consistent with best practice and current IRFU and Leinster Rugby guidance.
9. Acknowledgement
Every member shares responsibility for maintaining a safe, respectful and welcoming environment. Behaviour that brings the club or the game into disrepute may be considered a breach of this Code.
All club members, players, coaches, volunteers, and parents/guardians are required to read, understand, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.
